Gouveia is a mountain town in the district of Guarda, located on the western slope of the largest mountain system in mainland Portugal, Serra da Estrela, at an altitude of around 700 meters.

It is the seat of the municipality of Gouveia and has about 3472 inhabitants according to the latest censuses.
